After pick up from your accommodation in Beaune, we start the day with a private guided visit of Château du Clos Vougeot. Historical seat of the wines of Burgundy since it was established by the monks in the 12C, this Renaissance chateau was lovingly restored in the 19th and 20th century by the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin. Home of their famous Chapitres in honour of Burgundy wine and hospitality, we will see the giant wine presses used by the Cistercian monks and marvel at the remarkable engineering prowess of the Middle Ages.
We then have a private wine tasting in an exciting up and coming bio dynamic winery in Nuits Saint George. In the company of the wine maker or his assistant we will visit the extensive underground cellars before embarking on an extensive tasting of the renowned wines of the Cote de Nuits.
The lunch suggestion for today (not included) is a local Auberge serving a fixed menu of Burgundy specialities and cheeses, accompanied by a fresh salad and 4 wines (tasting size) selected by the chef/owner to complement your meal. A Grand Cru option is also available if you wish to indulge.
A stroll past the famous vineyards of Romanée Conti will help settle our lunch while we examine the vines and ‘terroir’ of this famous wine making region. The final wine tasting of the day will probably be in Gevrey Chambertin where we will taste around the different vineyards of Gevrey investigating the ‘climat’ that makes the wines of Bourgogne so special.
