Côte Chalonnaise

With Chateaux and Cremant

Visit the delightful fairy tale castle of Chateau de Rochepot, a 19th century fairy tale castle (restored in the style of the 15th century) looking out over the vines and owned by the descendants of the Family Carnot (19th century president of France) until just last year.

Staying on the family theme we drive over to ‘La Folie’ for a wine tasting of the best value for money Burgundy wines. The lively fifth generation wine makers will show us round their Domaine where four generations of the family live, including the up and coming sixth generation who are admittedly, still a little young to taste the wine, let alone make it!

A traditional Burgundy lunch follows in the small village of Volnay, you have free choice of the menu but I highly recommend their signature dish of Coq au Vin and ‘fondant’ potatoes. Alternatively we can visit a domaine in Mercurey for a set lunch and a choice of wines from the winemakers own estate. After lunch we drive up into the hills of the Hautes Cotes for an education into the vines and winemaking history in Burgundy.

The end of the day will be toasted in style with a visit to Veuve Ambal for an initiation into the fabrication of Cremant (Burgundy Champagne) and a Crémant tasting to equal those of Champagne.
